Control Your Weight Gain During the Holidays With These Tips

The holidays usher in joy, cheer, and too many goodies. Between family, friend, and work get-togethers and the numerous sugary gifts you receive, you inevitably gain about 10 pounds in December. Yes, your annual New Year’s resolution is to lose that weight, but wouldn’t you rather avoid gaining it in the first place? Revive Medical Center can help you prevent weight gain during the happiest season of all.

Eat Sweets

Wait a minute… what? Yes, allow yourself the holiday goodies from Halloween on. If you tell yourself you can’t have anything, you’ll eat everything. Experts agree that the mind works in mysterious ways, and one surefire way to trigger a binge is to deny yourself what you really want. Set aside a goodie a day to enjoy. This will satisfy your sugar craving.

Cook a Little Healthier

You don’t have to deep-fry your Thanksgiving turkey. That’s a ton of added fat. Rather, cook it the old-fashioned way and baste it with natural juices. Once it’s done, don’t eat the skin. Other healthy options for both turkey day and Christmas include applesauce instead of butter, fat-free half-and-half rather than cream, and vanilla for half the sugar content in a recipe.

Keep Moving

Even if you’re pure as the driven snow, you’ll still gain a little weight over the holidays. You naturally eat more, drink more, and – again – enjoy more sweets. Make up for it by exercising more, too. Add some additional time to your aerobic workout and lift a few more weights. If the weather permits, cool weather is perfect for walks and hikes, so do that, too.

Walk Away

Does your office have a treat table? Do you have a treat table at home? If so, your motto must be “walk away” until the holiday season is over. Don’t turn the holiday treat table to the water cooler in your office. Talk with your colleagues during breaks elsewhere. Keep the holiday treats at home out of sight, too, if you can’t walk away from that table to avoid over-indulgence.

Revive Medical Center in Lawrenceville, GA, just knows you can stay in shape during the holidays. You can have your cake and eat it, too; you just have to eat a smaller piece. If you fail and gain too much weight in November and December, don’t worry. We’re here to help. Contact us to set an appointment.
