What Can I Expect From BHRT Pellet Therapy?

We here at Revive Medical Center get it: You hear about exciting, new therapies but are they really safe and effective? What’s going to happen to you during and after treatment? In this blog post, let’s talk about pellet therapy, a bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) that is taking the medical field by storm. More effective than creams and oral medication, here is what you can expect if you opt to undergo BHRT pellet therapy to relieve your hormone deficiency symptoms.

What Are BHRT Pellets?

A BHRT pellet is a small pellet made of plant-based bioidentical hormones and natural binders help the pellet keep its shape until it is inserted into your body. These pellets are made in compounding pharmacies under strict, quality-controlled conditions to ensure they’re sterile and safe.

Do I Need Pellet Therapy?

If you suffer from hormone loss due to aging, a hysterectomy, or medical condition, pellet therapy can help relieve the discomfort associated with low hormone levels. This includes fatigue, fogginess, hot flashes, insomnia, low libido, stress, vaginal dryness, and weight gain.

What Happens Before the Procedure?

We will take an expansive blood panel to test your hormone levels. Once we see which hormones need replacing, we’ll schedule an appointment for pellet insertion. You don’t need to fast before the procedure but stop taking pain relievers and blood thinners one week prior to your appointment.

What About Pellet Therapy Insertion?

There’s no need to fret. Inserting the BHRT pellet is quick and a local anesthetic is applied to the area so you won’t feel a thing. We make a tiny incision in the upper portion of your buttock and insert the pellet. Once done, all it takes to cover the wound is a small bandage – no stitches are necessary.

What Happens After the Pellet Is Inserted?

Immediately following the procedure, it’s best to avoid bathtubs, hot tubs, and swimming. You should also do no more than walk for your lower body exercise. Do not exercise strenuously, bicycle, or do lower-body workouts until the bandage is removed. We’ll give you specific instructions in our office.

How Long Does it Take to Work?

Once the pellet is inserted into your bottom, it begins to dissolve and release the hormones. Some patients report symptom relief in as little as two weeks, but you will feel optimal results within six months. You will need pellets inserted three to four times a year.
