Benefits of IgE Allergy Testing

When you find yourself suffering allergic reactions and you aren’t sure what is causing it, it is frustrating. Especially when those reactions are new. If you are dealing with an unknown allergy, Revive Medical Center in Lawrenceville, GA, is here to help. We are pleased to now be offering IgE blood testing for allergies and intolerances. This method of testing delivers more accurate results and isn’t as uncomfortable as the traditional scratch test offered at other allergy testing facilities.

What Is an IgE Allergy Test?

Your immune system is a powerful force within your body that typically fights of viruses and invading bacteria. In some cases, it may also be trying to fight off substances that are actually harmless including things like pollen and food. When this happens your immune system produces immunoglobulin E, or IgE, which is an antibody.

While a normal level of IgE in your bloodstream is fine, elevated levels are a sign of trouble. An IgE allergy requires a quick finger prick to measure the level of IgE in your blood. There isn’t just one type of IgE, there are actually several different types that act as an indicator during the allergy testing process.

How Long Does It Take?

One of the biggest benefits of the IgE test is that it is not only accurate, but it is also fast. While you are in our office, all we need is a quick finger prick and you can be on your way. The test results typically take around 2 days. That’s it! Once we get your results back we can begin working on an immunotherapy regimen that is right for your specific allergies.
