Three Common Types of Shoulder Injuries

Trust us here at Revive Medical Center: You won’t realize how much you use your shoulder until you injure it. There are three common types of shoulder injuries, all of which we can help you with. Chiropractic medicine is a fantastic way to relieve the pain, stiffness, and loss of blood flow that is associated with shoulder injuries. Let’s talk more about this injury type, and what we can do to help.

Shoulder Injury Warning Signs

Before we get into the injury themselves, your shoulders will give you warnings that there something wrong. In most cases, an injury is brought on gradually by repetitive motion or continual strain. There are times, however, when a shoulder injury can be caused by an accident, sports injury, or other sudden trauma. The warning signs of these injuries include:

  • Shoulder stiffness that prohibits you from rotating your arm completely
  • A feeling that your shoulder might pop or slide out of position
  • Loss of strength in your shoulders as you try to do your daily activities

It’s a good idea to have your shoulder or shoulders examined at the first sign of trouble. This avoids an extended injury that may result in a need for surgery or other drastic measures. One of the most common things that cause pain and discomfort in the shoulders is pinched nerves, tendons, or other conditions that can be resolved by chiropractic adjustments.

The Most Common Shoulder Injuries

Unless you shatter your shoulder joints or blades, shoulder injuries are more likely found in the ligaments, muscles, and tendons. It’s easy to strain your shoulders without realizing it. You use them all the time. In fact, as we said above, most of our patients don’t realize how much they use their shoulders until the joints are injured. The three most common shoulder injuries are

  • Instability injuries that move the shoulder unnaturally or dislocate it from its socket
  • Impingement injuries caused by constant friction between the muscles and the shoulder blade
  • Rotator cuff injuries in the muscles and tendons that connect the arm bones and shoulder joints

All three of these injury types can be quite painful and severely limit your motion. The sooner you have your shoulder discomfort addressed the better chances of a successful healing program and process. This is especially true with a torn rotator cuff, which oftentimes requires surgery to repair.
